Why 'Nice' and 'Weird' are the Keys to Corporate Matchmaking

As a #SuperConnector, I've learned that making the right connections is crucial to success. However, it's not always about quantity over quality. The key is to curate the right connections, and I find it's often the "nice" and "weird" connections that can have the biggest impact. When we make connections based on kindness, respect, and empathy - and embrace our own & each others idiosyncrasies, unique perspectives, and unconventional ways of thinking, we're able to build stronger, more meaningful relationships that lead to incredible opportunities.

Keys to Corporate Matchmaking

Nice: Making connections based on kindness, respect, and empathy can build stronger relationships that stand the test of time, leading to meaningful and rewarding opportunities.

Weird: Embracing quirks, unique perspectives, and unconventional thinking can bring something new and fresh to the table, leading to innovative solutions and breakthroughs.

Diversity: Purposeful focus on diversity and unique perspectives can lead to innovative and impactful solutions.

Communication: Patience, communication, and building relationships are crucial in making quality connections and finding the right people in a meaningful way.

Humanness: At the heart of it all, corporate matchmaking is about connecting with people on a human level, and recognizing the value of individual strengths and weaknesses.

An unexpected meeting with Amy Van Doran, a well-known matchmaker and founder of the Modern Love Club, helped me realize that there were more similarities between corporate matchmaking and the work that Amy does than I recognized - and so a treasure trove for me to learn from. As dating has gotten more impersonal and transactional through app culture, businesses like Amy's are thriving because they provide the humanness that algorithms cannot. And while the process of corporate matchmaking involves matching companies, people, tech, and talent - it similarly works to identify partners that complement each other's strengths and weaknesses, and to connect them in a meaningful way that will facilitate the development of a mutually beneficial relationship.
